Scott Tippett is serving his first term as Frankfort City Commissioner. Scott graduated from Frankfort High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Kentucky State University, where he was a scholarship baseball player. He continued his education at Georgetown College and Eastern Kentucky University, earning a master’s degree in Secondary Education and a Rank 1 in Educational Administration.
Scott spent more than 25 years teaching in city and county schools and in a local GED program. He spent the majority of his teaching career at Wilkinson Street School working with at-risk students. He served as head baseball coach at Franklin County High School and head basketball and golf coach at Frankfort High School. Since retiring from teaching, he has worked in the private sector and returned to the family business as a master upholsterer.
One lesson Scott learned as a teacher and coach is the importance of working together, whether it is as part of a class, a team, or a community. He believes we need to work together to make Frankfort less economically dependent on state government. Frankfort should be a safe place for young and old alike, and a place where people choose to work, live, and raise their families.
Scott’s family includes his wife of 37 years, Becky Shannon Tippett, who is also a retired teacher, and a son, Andrew, who lives and works here in Frankfort.
As the recent past president of the South Frankfort Neighborhood Association, he was deeply involved in many of the issues facing Frankfort, and his campaign for city commission was a natural outgrowth of that experience. He is also on the board of directors of the Frankfort Kiwanis Club and has served on the board of the Frankfort Independent Schools Education Foundation.
