July 25, 2018 – The City of Frankfort has been successful in securing $60,000.00 for its Recycling Program through the FY2019 Kentucky Pride Fund Recycling Program.  The purpose of the program is to leverage limited funds into efficient and cost effective projects that will help Kentuckians develop an integrated recycling infrastructure and recycling public education program.

Frankfort’s approved funds of $60,000 will be utilized for Recycling equipment, printing/and educational materials. The equipment being acquired includes a Pro-Roll Trailer to carry 21-yard roll off containers to be used for recycling. Funding will also be sued to purchase four containers that can be left at a facility, such as a school, to be filled with recycling materials and then be picked up and emptied at a later time. This system will be beneficial to facilities which have high volumes of recycling and can also be used for events.

“We believe the trailer and recycling containers will be helpful to our high volume customers that often need several recycling carts for one week of materials,” said Solid Waste Superintendent Byron Roberts, “We’ve been looking at them for a couple of years and this grant gave us the opportunity to use them in our system.”

The grant also includes funds for advertising and educational outreach for the community.  The Solid Waste Division utilizes these funds to bring recycling information to the public via radio, newspaper, site visits and community events.
