[ARCHIVED] Frankfort City Manager Receives ICMA Certification

WASHINGTON, D.C. Cindy Steinhauser, City Manager, Frankfort, Kentucky, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, the International City/County Management Association.  Steinhauser is one of over 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.

ICMA’s mission is to advance professional local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics and by increasing the proficiency of appointed chief administrative officers, assistant administrators, and other employees who serve local governments and regional entities around the world. The organization’s 13,000 members in 27 countries also include educators, students, and other local government employees.

To receive the prestigious ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government; have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field; and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.

Steinhauser is qualified by 24 years of professional local government executive experience and is one of only six female Managers who manage a State Capital. Prior to her appointment in 2017 as City Manager of Frankfort, Steinhauser worked in Dubuque, Iowa where she served as Neighborhood Development Specialist, Parking System Supervisor and most recently as Assistant City Manager, serving in that capacity since May 2001.

Highlights of Steinhauser’s ICMA membership include serving as the chair of the Sustainable Community Advisory Committee as well as serving on the International Committee, the Editorial Board Research Committee, ICMA CityLinks Partnership and an active member of the International Fellows Exchange Program since 2011.

She has also made significant contributions to a number of other organizations, including her service as a board member for the National Civic League, EPA Brownfield Conference Regional Planning Committee, the Technical Advisory Committee for ICLEI - a national advisory board to develop criteria for the STAR Community Index program and the Iowa Women’s Leadership Conference. She is a member of the Kentucky League of Cities and the Kentucky City/County Management Association. She also previously served on the board of several art, downtown redevelopment, tourist and educational organizations and has successfully authored or co-authored national and international awards as well as millions of dollars in State and Federal grants to help transform communities.
